Outlook

My philosophy is simple:
"I take life seriously but not myself." I have a dry sense of humor,
am easy-going and very slow to
anger. I generally like most people unless they give me a reason not to. I've found that
most everyone is the same
on the inside; it's mostly in the way we express ourselves that is different.
I try to sense what people are "feeling," not just the words they are
speaking.
I'm very inquisitive about life and the way things work - I rarely accept
anything at face value. I am a very passionate
person and feel things
very deeply. I'm fairly independent by nature but
love people. I try to push my limits and see how far I can go, yet
it's the
simplest things in life that I enjoy the most. I can
be very shy and reserved, yet outgoing and spontaneous at the same time; most
people can't figure me out. I'm a very dedicated lover and friend. Friendship is
much more important to me than love.
Honesty, communication, compassion, and a sense of humor are the top qualities I look
for in a friend or partner. I love people who are easy going, and can be comfortable and
have a good time in most
situations. I've only been in love twice in my life. I am the
eternal optimist though, believing that there is that someone special out there that I have yet
to meet.

Passions and Dreams
 |
|
I've always loved creating....in
writing, photography, and graphic design. I'm
physically active - I love skateboarding, surfing, snow skiing, racquetball,
rollerblading, volleyball, bike riding, camping, hiking and traveling. I love to explore new places and
cultures, and meeting people. I
love all things related to nature, whether it's walking on the beach or hiking in the
mountains. I also enjoy reading a good book at the park, beach, or local coffee
shop.
For the future, I'd like to try hang gliding, skydiving, hot air
ballooning, riding the rapids on a river, flying a plane, taking a cruise up the Nile in
Egypt, spending a month or two touring Europe, sailing around the world, going on an
African safari, and discovering the Loch Ness monster. |

Work and Career
 |
|
Most of my
professional life has been spent as a photographer, or in some other artistic area.
From 1978 to 1986 I worked in the skateboard industry as a photo/journalist at Skateboarder
Magazine, managing editor at TransWorld Skateboarding Magazine,
and general manager and team coach at Gull Wing Products.
Since leaving the skateboard scene I lost my direction for a
while and tried a lot of different jobs. I worked at Southwest
Airlines, as a deputy sheriff, selling home satellite systems, and even worked on a goat farm for one
day. Those were difficult years for me at times, but I learned a great deal about the world and myself through those experiences.
In 1990 I went back to school to study graphic design. I
currently work in the marketing department of a national company
as a graphic artist and photographer. I continue to do freelance photography, though mostly modeling and portfolio work. |

My Life in
Skateboarding
 |
|
| Skateboarding was
a huge part of my life for many years. To preserve that history
for future generations, I created a skateboard
history timeline. I also scanned my entire collection of Skateboarder
Magazine covers. You can see them at the links below.

About My
Web Site
 |
|
In
July 1997, I created my first web site (originally called, Jim's
Dog House) just for fun, and to explore what was then the new world of the
Internet. It has since grown into an experience that has
deeply affected my life in many positive ways. I've met
many interesting people from all over the world who have
shared their lives and cultures with me. It has been so
enlightening to share in people's lives who have been
affected by my own life.
In August 2005, I said goodbye to Jim's Dog House and created a
whole new web site at a new domain name. Though I've lost much
of the original home-spun look and feel of my original site, I
feel that my new
site better reflects my life both personally and professionally. |
